Welcome to Food Energy ("the App"). By using the App, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Description of Service

Food Energy is a mobile application that uses artificial intelligence to estimate the nutritional content of food from photos and text descriptions, and to look up packaged products by barcode. The App stores your meal history and preferences locally on your device. AI requests are routed through a thin proxy server we operate (Google Cloud Run) and forwarded to third-party AI providers; barcode lookups are sent to Open Food Facts.

Nutritional estimates are approximate and should not be used as a substitute for professional dietary advice.

2. Subscription

• The App offers two subscription tiers that unlock unlimited scans:
  • Monthly: €4.99 / month
  • Yearly: €39.99 / year (save approximately 33%)
• Without a subscription, you may perform up to 4 AI photo scans and up to 50 barcode lookups per day.
• Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase.
• The subscription automatically renews unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
• You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your device settings:
  • iOS: Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions
  • Android: Google Play Store → Subscriptions

3. Free Trial

If a free trial is offered, it will be specified at the time of purchase. Any unused portion of a free trial period will be forfeited once you purchase a subscription.

4. Third-Party Services

The App relies on the following external services to provide its functionality. Each receives only the minimum data required for its specific function:

• Anthropic Claude API, Google Gemini API, and Mistral AI API — analyze food photos and text descriptions
• Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Run, Firestore) — hosts the proxy that routes AI requests and stores anonymous abuse-prevention counters (auto-deleted after 48 hours)
• Open Food Facts — looks up packaged products by barcode
• RevenueCat — manages subscription state and validates store receipts

Use of the App constitutes acceptance of the applicable third-party terms. Please refer to their privacy policies and terms of service for details.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the App for any unlawful purpose
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
• Attempt to circumvent subscription restrictions, scan limits, or proxy authentication
• Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to interact with the App or its proxy
• Resell, redistribute, or expose the App's API endpoints to third parties

6. Intellectual Property

All content, design, and code of the App are the property of the developer and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App for personal purposes.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Nutritional data generated by AI is an estimate and may be inaccurate. Barcode lookups depend on the Open Food Facts community database and may return outdated or incomplete information. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any analysis provided.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App, including but not limited to health decisions based on the App's nutritional estimates.

9. Service Availability

The App relies on third-party services and our proxy infrastructure. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability and may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time without prior notice.

10. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
